Life can be intense, overwhelming, or take unexpected turns sometimes.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is essential to the work. So, nurturing a strong and safe therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my approach.
Above all, I aim to be a real, invested person with you in the room, being engaged and thoughtful and keeping an eye on the process throughout.
I work integratively, which means I will aim to understand and honour the different parts of you. It also means that I am curious about the implications of identity and broader social culture for not only your situation, but your therapy.
As well as this, I adapt how I work to suit you as an individual, and to respond to what feels most helpful as therapy unfolds. Trauma-informed and anti-oppressive philosophies are at the heart of my approach.
I draw on a range of approaches, including relational, person-centred, Gestalt, existential and psychodynamic perspectives (I am happy to answer questions about the theory side, should this be helpful). Sessions can move at a steady, collaborative pace, shaped by what's present for you and what you need on a given day.
This means I give you space to lead the pace and depth of what we explore. I may check in on how sessions feel for you, and adjust the pace or focus if needed.
What you want from counselling is up to you, and this may well unfold throughout the process. My role is to create a space where you are listened to and supported, where you can explore - at your pace - what might be happening for you, across past, present and future. We can think together about what you need, and what might begin to feel different or more manageable over time.
